I don't know what made me randomly remember this drum machine while thinking about ideas for shooting a documentary about my home studio, but I did a quick image search and now I wonder what happened to what was supposed to be a real version of what's in this really cool-looking 3D render.

Did they ever create a working prototype of the BoomChik Drum Machine?

Did they change their minds?

Wasn't Roger Linn working on an "MPC Killer"?

An inquiring mind wants to know...

I think the drum machine side was the tempest. Which took a few years to mature for DSI.

The sampler side ended up being the SP16. Shout outs to pioneer for collaborating with Dave Smith on this project. Even without the prophet 6 filter the outputs shine. It’s almost like turning up the low mids by .5dB on the output.

I think Roger is doing well with his linnstrument now that more synths support MPE so having a new beat machine might not be in his radar. I was an early adopter of the linnstrument and it took years of MPE enthusiasts to get synths to where they are right now.
