AKAI FMX-008 Flash ROM new project

Hi,

I have an S2000 and I am an electronics hobbyist (reverse-engineering)

I am in the process of building a clone for the S-series samplers. As far as I know for MPC it is very similar (with the difference in the plug). I suspect some users will be interested in making it public. When I finish the new FMX and check it in my sampler - I will make available the necessary documentation for the build (schematics and PCB GERBER files)

If anyone would like to support me it will be appreciated because the whole thing will cost a bit.

After many years of unavailability..................

I just finished developing the schematic of the FMX-008 card. I am making it available for free only please do not use it for commercial purposes. It remains to design the PCB and assemble and check the whole thing in operation.

So please treat the schematic as good but not tested - beta version 100% certainty will be when on its basis a working card will be built.

AFAIK this card can be fitted into MPC2000 but I'm not sure. Schematic is crippled (4 empty places were erased because they aren't needed at last) a bit therefore card can be made as FMX-008/M. Some things should be checked first. I don't own MPC...

I am working currently on it It will take some days to finish and some time to order PCBs at Chineese factory. There are some minor traps but I hope to avoid if any...

Cloning the PCB isn't difficult, the problem is sourcing the DSP used for the EB16, it was custom for Akai.

Same problem with the screens.

Yeah, i've tried to lookup for L7A1414 L6028 DFX IC somewhere, no success.
I've searched other akai products that have this chip inside, no success.

this one mf is custom made like You said Richie.

I tried to find it too...
DFX chip is unavailable so restoring EB16 is simply impossible without reverse-engineer and rebuild original chip what seems to be a bit complicated task afaik.

I like the look of this project. Is it an exact electrical clone that will also work in a S3000XL, like a real one? Are you planning to sell populated boards that are fully working? If not, would you give permission for someone else to do that?

It will be a remedy for mpc2000 and s2000 (maybe other tools from akai) that are in need to have OS on floppy to boot.
Looking forward to test it in my 2000xl, and thinking about 2000 classics left on second hand market to be fully operational without this floppy boot thing which was pita for 2kclassic owner.

Thanks. Haha - nooo please don't take it as NO

It is almost exact clone (without empty solder pads for 28F016 on original PCB).
I will not to sell boards because I have simply no time to do it (assembling and sending), so...
If anyone will kindly ask me for permission I think it will be granted. Why not?

Keep in mind that this is middle stage of project. I need to assemble and test it in real machine. I have s2000 with 1.5 firmware so it will be possible to boot system from Flash afaik.
