MPC500/1000/2500 all max out at the same 128MB RAM, so for $500 you may squeeze in a second hand 1000, which is the better machine compared to the 500, plus has the option of upgrading to a superior third party OS (JJ), which the 500 doesn't.
Holler at this dude ont he forums, MPC 1000 updated with JJOS2 with custom side panels for $500.
