How would you re-design the MPC software & hardware?

I genuinely do not intend to passively insult anyone. It is to be clear to those people who write "how do you separate form and function?" and write next to my points.

This is all subjective. I am simply making my point to how i see the product evolving.

Dont worry... my suggestions would not result in you feeling like you're no longer using an MPC... my point is that you will!

I PREFER the MPC to Maschine and have owned and used both. I have used the MPC for 15 years and have always come back to it.

It is for this reason that i feel like i can and should make these points about evolving its design.

It has never really changed. Yes... it is now a controller for a computer and i understand the difference between that and the original MPCs.

For this exact reason we should see some design progression. Look around you and you will see apps and software being redesigned to be flatter, more minimal, simpler and there is a reason for this.

Many of us, even avid MPC users, want change. We dont want to look at a bit of gear that is made to feel old and vintage.

I see so much room for evolution.

I hope that Akai understands the theory 'survival of the fittest,' or it wont be around as long as Maschine.

I like the grey design. My Ren is grey, i want it grey.

But they could make a chrome design for Studio users for example.

Bottom line flat looks cheap and childish on a screen it's trendy now because people think it's trendy more so than actually looking at it.

Really wish Apple would get past that one way OS, not being able to revert is really bad.

You say YOU don't want vintage yet there's a whole culture of music gear based on the fact that people prefer modern gear with a vintage layout and appearance.
Native Instruments is new in the hardware game and going with a common look across all their gear.
Akai can't lose site of the fact all their MPC ans S-series gear is still sought out for a real reason.


What people really don't get is that Maschine and the Ren were actually geared toward 2 different types of users.
Consumers constantly try to force them into the same pot.

Survival of the fittest in this case is about understanding where you can make your money and not focusing on battle for dollars.

Akai has got to get to the point where they make a computer MPC that makes hardware MPC users want to migrate.
A modern layout and revamp will simply make them another 2013 product trying to sell to everyone but selling to no one.

Don't edit things to try and change their content.

It will prob never ever happen this is my ren fantasy :the mpc buddy =processor ram hd hooked up to main USB port =make the ren a hardware standalone then use the 2usb hubs for loading files . I love the fact that akai went with the software thing but they should have made the ren a hybrid from the jump.there is a very simple romance when it comes to the mighty MPC plug it in load files and bang the ****OUT when akai decides to put out a new mpc it better be hybrid or else ill just stay with the ren and buy a 3000 or 4000 ....easy!!!!

If Akai could make an MPC that looks like the Push and the software flat and minimal like Ableton i'd be in.

I dont want to get a push or switch to using Ableton for making music.

I just want the MPC hardware and software to be re-designed for the modern producer, just as push was.

PUSH was designed to match LIVE that's all.

As for hardware: I'd add good zooming. The current one with shift + <> is a bit too slow, imho.

Pressing [some button] + turning the jog could do the trick. Maybe shift + jog? I know that's for contrast now, but how often do you have to change that anyways…

What would solve a lot of problems is if they allowed you to assign shortcuts keys to what ever button you wanted to just like how some of the DAW's do.. That way you can have zoom, and other features exactly where you want them that gears towards your comfort instead of them being fixed. Just a thought..
