MPC Beats/Sample Edit - No difference in Q link adjustments?

Hey whats up y'all,

I just downloaded the mpc beats software. Im starting to get the hang of everything, but I can't figure out how to make fine adjustments to the Start/End points on the Q-link knobs. It seems no matter if its at x1000 or x1, it will still make the same adjustments. What gives? I wanna be able to midi map everything so I'm not constantly going back to the computer to manually adjust start points. I figured I could map my knobs for the different start/ end point adjustments and atleast be able to have somewhat better control. Anybody notice the same thing or I am missing something here???

I have experienced the same behavior. It's not just you.

Bummer. Well I figured out some sort of a work around, at least I think I haven't really tried it a 100 % yet. If you go into the midi learn tab, you can adjust the type of CC control (I think that's what its called). For the q links, the type is set to ABS, if you change it to Rel or Rel CC ( I think its something like that) you can have the controllers make finer adjustments. It's kind of wonky though... the Start/End points will make fine adjustments but if you adjust too much it will just bounce around. Either way, I think if you keep one q link at ABS type and one at CC type, you can make it somewhat more intuitive to create start/end points. I don't know though, I haven't really put it into practice yet.

Thanks for the suggestion. I spent a good 30 minutes on this. These are my observations

Using the mouse to move the q-link on screen, the finest adjustment that can be made is 1% of the number of samples in the file (roughly). If the .wav file you are editing is 8483 samples. The smallest increment you can move using the mouse to move q-link #1 is 92 samples.

Using an external midi knob or encoder (Absolute CC) the finest adjustment that can be made is .078% of the number of samples in the file (roughly). I tested two different encoders from two different midi controllers and 1 knob.

Using an external midi knob or encoder (Relative CC Offset) the finest adjustment that can be make is exactly 1 sample. This is the desired behavior, but you also have to use the mouse to set the encoder increment to 1 sample.

Forgive the crude explanation, but if you "rock" the encoder value up and down, you can cycle through the sample at smaller increments than Absolute CC allows (from about 20-50 samples). If you move the encoder one value, then use your mouse to move the play head back to the start position, the next time you move the encoder by one value the increment it moves will be smaller. You can repeat this process until the increment is 1 sample.

I type all of this to say, that the software is capable of letting you move through the .wav file 1 sample at a time. It's just that at present, using a mouse or external midi controller yields poor results, even using Relative CC Offset, which you really wouldn't want to have to change each time you needed to edit a sample.

Perhaps using the physical Q-links on an MPC live/X/One solves this issue?

Thanks for looking into it. That makes sense. Smaller sample lengths = smaller adjustments. I'm looking forward to getting the mpc one... I'm pretty sure it will make the workflow a whole a lot smoother compared to the mpk mini.
