MPC Renaissance & MPC Software OS 1.2 bug reports

Hi Comtox,

I'm not really having issues with the display being glitchy (though it definitely lags when editing samples). I'm on a Mac, OS X Lion. It sounds like it could be something to do with the communication from the software to the hardware but I'm just speculating. The only reason I say this is because it seems like if it only happens in some cases it could have something to do with the configuration of the computer vs. an actual problem with the REN. Hopefully it gets figured out though.

Sampling in through inputs 3 + 4 using spdif, the mpc converts my sample to mono and back to stereo, so I get a sample thats stereo but the left and right channel are identical.

Perhaps you are doing something wrong. Are you using a digital SPDIF cable or a cheap RCA cable?

I just record an audio clip. I intentional recorded Michael Jackson on the left channel and Biggie on the right channel. I loaded this audio clip inside my MV-8800.

Then I connect my MV-8800 digital output to the digital input of the Ren (running 1.2) using a digital SPDIF cable. I selected Input 3-4 in the Ren's audio preferences. Then I recorded the MV into the Ren (digitally).

Result - It recorded perfectly. I still had MJ on the left channel and Biggie on the right.

I am always willing to help out another Ren user. Can you post a video of your issue?

If he used RCA cables on SPDIF he would have no sample period as no digital data would be sent on an analog cable.

This is absolutely false.

You can take consumer RCA cables (not intended for digital devices) and use them to connect two digital devices that uses SPDIF I/O. But it is not recommended. You can get errors in the digital signal or it may not work at all. And how do I know this? Just about every sampler in my studio has SPDIF I/O...and once upon a time when I didn't know any better (and being cheap)..I tried it with mixed results. No need to roll your eyes.

Edit - Just found an old RCA cable (Low Noise Audio Cable) that I used to connect my VCR to my old home theater amp. This 'analog' cable is working quite well connecting MV and Ren via SPDIF.

yeah I dont get those same results, also my signal is always comes through very low and I have to normalize every time, on yours the volume is louder and you dont really have to normalize. I'm still troubleshooting, maybe something's up with my focusrite thats feeding the mpc. I need to fiddle around some more here. If I get it to work I'll let it be known asap.

I am trying to follow the Quickstart Tutorial supplied in the reference manual which says to use threshold on a drum loop to isolate each hit in chop mode and then hit audition...I hit audition and for some reason when i try hitting the pads only pads 1-8 are playing back yet on the pad grid it clearly shows slices 1-16 are on pads 1-16??? pads 9-16 (i.e half the drum loop) are not playing back?

I am an MPC Newb so i know I might be doing something wrong or is this a known v1.2 bug/issue???

Try to convert it to a program when the chops are good for you, then look if the program is well configured in the layer section. I do not use the Threshold, I prefer choose the number of zone and set the chops myself... I never had an issue with this.

When switching from trim to chop, it would be nice to have audition enabled and not the threshold mode selected... just another, maybe multiple zone or beat based slices... or just put in memory the last mode used... I always need to switch from threshold to other mode which are less random.

Win7 x64, Intel i7 920, 6gb ram

I've chopped a wav song in 20 parts. The project file was loading when i was working on the choppings, but now it doesn't load correctly anymore. When i open the project, it is very slow to read the wav files and the software sometimes crashes. Once it finishes it's slow loading, when i hit pads the sounds only play in part. And if i go in sample edit i see only a part of the visual wave. Closing the software freezes/crashes it. The chopped wav files plays correctly when opening them in another software or adding them in a new project, so it's not too bad i will just create a new project with the chopped parts, but it would have been very annoying if i had done more work than chopping. There is nothing else in the project, no plugins, no nothing. Only pre-chopped 1 file in 20 parts for the purpose of rechopping them in smaller parts.

edit: i think my hard drive is dying or corrupted.. probably not a problem with the mpc software
