I was hoping to be able to autosample to Drum Programs, but that doesn't seem to be possible. Any workarounds or tips for converting Key Programs to Drum Programs?

One frustration I have is dragging samples onto pads in layers. I see that shift-drag is possible to add samples to layers. But I want to be able to select 4 samples and drag them on to a single pad at once, then drag to order layers on the pad.

At the moment it is so slow that it's a chore and killing off inspiration.

I second Mr. Cockdiesel here...

If you don't (or can't) use key groups, then hitting each pad, and then chopping by threshold can help a lot here.

BTW... what drum machine are you trying to capture that you cannot auto sample? I've auto sampled a number of drum machines and I am curious which ones you're having a problem with.

Yep, I guess that is a possible approach.

To be clear I can autosample my drum machines, both of which are analogue. But they end up as Key Programs. I would like to be able to sample them into Drum Programs, with velocity aware layers to help capture their dynamic nature. It's about capturing some of the subtle natural variations in analogue drums.

You could use a midi program addressing the drum machine and record one note after the other (triggering every drum sound of the unit you want to sample) every 4th beat. Then play it back and sample the drum machines outs into the MPC.
On the resulting long sample - which contains all the drum sounds you wanted of the machine in question - you could then use slice by threshold or by region, adjust the start and end points to taste and create a new program out of those slices which contains all those wonderful drum samples in one place.
