I’m really hoping to work on MPC files in the plugin and have the option of switching to DAW instruments when I want and visa versa. I can set up to record in the MPC VST but I can’t trigger record without pressing play or record in the DAW. If I press play I’m recording only to the MPC VST sequencer, but I don’t get a count in. I get a count in if I press record but I also end up recording midi events to the DAW track. I can’t find the count in button in the plugin. Is it better to work in the software by itself for tracking and editing, and then export to the DAW if I want to play with its instruments and effects. It seems like a better option to do it in the plugin. Any tips?

Ok,

I’m using Logic and hoping to track with the MPC plugin sequencer without also recording midi on the Logic track.I can’t get a count in without doing that at the moment. To be clear, I’m not trying to control Logic instruments with the MPC sequencer. I have previously written material from a standalone MPC. I’m hoping to work on that material and sequence it’s instruments using the plugin sequencer, and also accompany the sequence on other logic tracks if I find an instrument that complements the song. I’m doing that right now but Logic is also recording midi to its track when I sequence in the plugin. I have to go back and erase the redundant midi recording every time I sequence in the MPC. Is this just something I have to deal with in your experience?

I think what you're looking to do is to record from the transport, without arming a track in Logic. I don't have Logic, so cannot help you there, but you should look for options to see how you might be able to either arm the DAW to record without an active track, or how you can have the track ignore the midi information (by using a specific channel for instance)...

I mostly run stand alone, but maybe I'll see if I can figure out how to get this to work in Ableton or Reason later today.

I worked around the problem by pressing Logics record button to activate recording in the MPC plugin, and then pressing it once more to avoid recording in the Logic track region. Just putting it here in case someone searches for the same problem. Thanks again.
