I watched a YouTube video on mixing for MPC beats. It was pretty straight forward but one thing I’m having trouble with since using the tips is I can barely hear my melodies. Kick/808s they say should be minus 6db-minus 9db. They had snare/hi hats minus 10db-minus 12db. They had Melodie’s at minus 18db. I can barely hear my melodies. What am I doing wrong? Obviously I can increase them but I want to follow the general guidelines. I have like 4 different melody tracks.

Those negative db’s are normal when using “gain staging”.
It’s volume managing for the different features/options your audio passes thru before finally reaching the main out.
Stop getting automatically offended when you see gold letters!
