Problem with MPC Beats and Akai MPK mini

Folks, I'm following the MPC Academy videos, and in the "Making a Beat Inside MPC" video, there is a part where they "select a sound" and then do the 16 level. When I do that, I CANNOT change anything in the Pad Perform (can't change to Chromatic), and also the pads on my MPK mini STILL play drum sounds.
They are not re-mapped to that one sound.

In addition, none of the dials affect ANY of the q-link items in mpc beats. I already checked, and the "Midi Learning" already has the "Akai MPK mini 3" in the drop down.

Why are my pads and the dials not being mapped correctly with the software??

Found it -- it's in the PREFERENCES:
EDIT-> Preferences->MIDI/Synch

Have to make sure that the MPK Mini 3 has CONTROL and TRACK selected (not GLOBAL).
I also have output Ports SYNC/TRACK on.

Then disconnect the MPK Mini, and reconnect....

NOW I get all the pads working and the QLINK is linked to my pots....
