My questions are:
a) can you record a vocal straight into the new MPC Live?
b) If so how? There only seems to be 1/4" line-in inputs and more curiously no mic level XLR in. Am I supposed to use an additional mic pre e.g. And apogee duet?

A)Yes.
B)Definitely gonna need a mic preamp.
Unless you change course and set sail to get the MPC X, which has internal phantom power for mics.
