I pop in and out of here from time to time, mostly a lurker. I've been at this bedroom music thing for a long time, and have never liked computers mostly for the interface. I work on computers all day, then do photography on them as a side job and am burnt on one more creative process with a mouse and a keyboard chasing the jonses, so I'm pretty much a hardware person. However, the new MPC X looks, like, it may be a step in the right direction for me, provided some things work the way I want. So, has anyone -
1 - used it without ever touching or looking at anything to do with the computer while it was hooked up to the computer? From what I can tell, you can load, save, edit, sample, etc, all the MPC things, directly in controller mode.
2 - Launched and used various VSTs directly from the unit without looking at the computer, etc? One of the things I liked about Maschine was the ability to do this (thats the only thing, though). Very specifically, Kontakt? IE - have you, from the unit, loaded up a NKI and/or NKM instrument? If I were to go get say, Neo Keys 3, could I load up specifically the Stage patch?
3 - What about synth presets for something like FM8 or z3ta?
4 - I have a few maachines like an Integra that can do audio over USB. Can I set input/output devices directly from the unit?
5 - Has anyone tried some of the more complicated drum programs like BFD with it? I've been wanting BFD since forever but, again...no computer. But I also can't see how that would ever work.
6 - Can you make your own Qlink setups that show what the midi CCs are set up to on the screens? IE - if I wanted to set midi 74 and name it "Filter", can I? Can the Qlinks control different midi channels/outputs on one page? If I wanted to set up filers for gear set to Out A and C, for example?
7 - How are program changes handled? And can it handle Sysex data i/o?
I know, I always ask weird, esoteric questions, but then again, I kind of just am looking for an MPC with kontakt in it, so....
