This is for the PC version, though it probably applies to the Mac with possibly different steps to get there. Folks here may already know all this, but just in case, here is something I learned the first day with my new MPC X...
When you download the MPC 2.0 software, extract the files by running the MPC-v2.0.8-Win.exe, but do not run the "Install MPC.exe", which runs the installer for the application.
Instead, go into the directory that the software extracted to and then into the sub-directories installer_assets\drivers. Directly run the file "Install Akai Professional MPC X 1.0.4.exe" and follow the prompts. After that finishes installing the drivers, reboot.
When just installing the drivers in this manner, you don't have to screw around with the iLock licensing, so you can do this with any number of PCs you might have.
When you connect your MPC X to your PC and put the MPC X into Controller mode. That screen on the MPC X will continue to show that it is searching for a PC. Ignore that. On your PC, you should see any drives on your MPC X (i.e. internal SSD or HDD, USB flash drive, SD card). You can then treat these as as normal drives attached to your PC. The only drive on the MPC X that yo won't see is the internal 16 GB drive.
Before exiting Controller mode on the MPC X, be sure to detach/unmount all the drives that the MPC X presented so you don't lose data.
To me, installing a 1 TB internal SSD in my MPC X now becomes really useful for transferring data between the PC and the MPC X.
By the way, in the Windows environment, when you create the exFAT filesystem on your new SSD, make sure that you also create the mount point by ssigning a drive letter. If you don't do this, the drive will be properly formatted, but not accessible in the MPC X for the PC with Controller mode.
