Condenser microphone

Hey guys, I’m really new to condenser microphones but I’ve purchased my first one it’s the audio tech at2020. I have the MPC Live so I hooked the microphone up to phantom power and to the back of the mpc through the rca inputs. Tested the microphone and it works fine but I’m having a problem with the audio levels. I dropped down the audio to 20dcb and I’m still getting a large amount of distortion even when I sitting about 5 feet from the mic. I was wondering if there was a way to adjust the input level of the microphone through the mpc and if so how do I do it.

hey! As far as I know those rca inputs on the MPC live are only phono level, not line level. So they are going to have a pre amp on them for turntables, and will sound distorted if you're running your mic at line level. If you can, use the regular 1/4 inch inputs and set the switch to line. If your still having trouble turn down the Rec Vol knob that is right next to the rca inputs.

Your condenser mic ideally needs to go through a mic preamp which will provide phantom power and bring the mic level up to line level; then you can connect it to the normal 1/4" line input.

Yes you have to convert the mic level to line level before connecting it to Live.
You can use a preamp, a small mixer or whatever you can use to make the conversion.
Connecting a mic to line level is not a good choice, it gets phase problems, distortions and so on
