I'm thinking about buying the MPC live and have 2 question:)

Support and discussion for all of Akai’s modern standalone MPCs including the MPC X / X SE, MPC Live 1, 2 & 3, MPC One / One+, MPC Key 37/61.

I'm thinking about buying the MPC live and have 2 question:)

IDK something is wrong. A kind of crisis maybe?

I watched the MPC one videos and thought 'not that bad' but then I watched MPC live videos and realized how closed minded I was all the years. I love my gear (2 s900, 1 s950, 2 TX16w, 2 Casio FZ1 and the MPC2000) but I'm moving right now and my new flat is smaller and I really think about selling most of my stuff and buy a MPC live. Let go all that heavy stuff that take to much space.......

What I don't like about the live is the touch display. IDK I don't like touch displays in general (for making music). Does anyone here use the live with a touchscreen pen? Does it work flawless?

2nd question: When in chop mode the endpoint of the chops are at the startpoint of the next chop. Is there a way to overlap?

Any other pro or cons?

I am not sure I understood this overlapping question.
As for the first question, I also don't like touchscreen so much but with Live you can easily jump here and there just using menu+pad and qlinks.
I rarely use touchscreen and in a performance environment, I don't use it at all.
The shortcuts are well done, it just takes a bit to learn the workflow but once you learn it, it's fast enough to have fun with Mpc Live.
I buyed it 2 years ago and now I am very happy with it, it's a very clever device, I have all drum machines packed in a folder, instruments, good Air synths and very good Air effects.
And after this One release, it will be improved more, Akai is working good with regular updates every 3/4 months.
And anyway, it's already a quite mature product, it works good and sounds very good.

So a fast sample edt workflow is possible without touching the screen? I saw that zooming is possible with the rotary knobs.
I need to watch more videos to get to know the menu structure. Comming from the 2000 classic I guess I'll need some time to get used to it but.......it kind of feels like it's the right thing to do. New flat, new job, new life, new MPC :) :hmmm: new DJ mixer would also be nice. I'm still on the Stanton SA-3 :)

Honestly peter just grab tutors live bible and you will have the new os down in a week.

It is different than all the other mpcs I used. Many different workflows but for me the live and another box is a killer workflow. It really can breath new life into vintage gear too.

My assumption is you’re more of a boom bap guy, so you may want to hold onto that one. There’s one guy here using a x, 950, and an asr. From what I can tell he really loves his setup, being able to multi track them into the mpc is really dope to me.

Get your hands on one, and then try to imagine just what having your other boxes would be like with it. You can do the majority of the work within the live itself, transfer to the computer, mix it up and go.

I don’t really make boom bap, but I personally like having a small synth and some effects to work with it and more recently seeing how powerful even an iPad can be.

I wouldn't call it boom bap. More like 90s hiphop, no matter what coast, city or style. ;)
My relation to my gear is a love and hate relation. sometimetimes I really feel great powering on all that stuff and use the limitations of it to keep my focus on whats really needed but for the last few months I find myself more ofted frustated cause I would like to have ONE box that I can power on to lay down an idea in a fast way. The more videos I watch the more I'm impressed by the MPC live. The sampling options alone (slicing while sampling etc) can speed up the workflow so much. Damn I need it!! :lol:

I guess my setup in (maybe) june 2020 will be the MPC live the 950 and the eSP1200 from lowhiss.

Get an Mpc Live and you won't regret it.
Best way to sit on sofa with headphones and let your creativity flows.

I was JUST like you years and years ago. I started warming up to touch screens on triton extreme. Nintendo DS stylus pen is a GREAT GREAT tool, don’t sleep on it.
I finally jumped fully in when I got into BM2 on ipad.

Do both, hardware tactile and touch screen if you can. Much quicker, more visual, keep old ways of working but also let new ways enter your mind, “filter” what you like and don’t like. You’s an og so nothing I’m saying is new. I use a stylus most times now, it’s great.

Yeah moving with menu+pad and qlinks lets you touch the screen just to uplight the functions you need to edit.
Once you learn this workflow, it's very fast.

I got on this forum specifically to ask, I have data from MPC2000 from 10 years ago and want to buy a newer MPC. Although it would take some daisy chaining to accomplish, would I be able to use the .pgm and .seq from years ago? Are the newer machines using different format/extensions?

I guess I could start a new thread or continue to look for this answer here but haven't found the info right off.
