What is Active Sense?

Does anybody know what “active sense” is on the MIDI MONITOR screen and why it keeps making “indexes” whenever I turn on my connected keyboard?

It’s a (mostly unused) feature that allows the midi receiver to know (sense) if the connected midi keyboard/device is unplugged via the 5din port. You can safely ignore it :)

you should disable it on your keyboard cause it has the ability to overlflow your MIDI system / hub / routings

Thanks! I thought my MPC Live was going haywire! So, I’d have to disable it from my JUNO-DS... How could I disable it from there?

Good to know. I’ve never seen it until now! LOL. Is this a new feature in the 2.8 update?

Active Sense is something the receiving module reads. Once it sees an “AS” byte, it continues looking for them every few hundred milliseconds or so. If it doesn't see one, it assumes the midi cable has been disconnected and shuts off all voices. So it would have to be implemented in your module. AS is designed to shut off hanging notes, not the opposite, that’s if it's properly working.

Try turning off different midi functions in Juno one at a time and see which one stops Live from seeing AS.

Menu /System /Midi ,
Transmit Program Change, Bank Select , Active Sensing off

Nah , unnecessary midi clock is far worse .
