Buy now or wait....

Torn between the MPC X and the MPC ONE. I have an open budget, but I like the fact that the ONE is small for my bedroom studio. I'm currently an MPC 2000 owner (since '96!) and I'm finally looking to enter the modern age. I want to do as much as I can in my standalone unit, without the need of a computer. However, I do want the ability to possibly incorporate a DAW later on.

That being said, I don't currently use a DAW/computer for anything music related, all hardware. I bought the REN right when it came out and sold it shortly thereafter due to me hating making beats via a computer.

I want the ability to make beats with multiple samples, and multiple tracks, then email my work to another person etc. Question, if I make a beat using some of the stock internal sounds, are those able to be exported along with my other, original samples? Let's say if my friend wanted to mix my project in Logic/ProTools, I can simply send him all of the files easily after saving them to a thumb drive or sd card?

I like the X, but will a better version come out relatively soon? Or, should I just buy the ONE and get used to it vs. my current MPC 2000 workflow. Sorry for so many questions, still have the passion to make beats after all these years.

Pioneer DJM S9 2 channel mixer (I don't even use Serato!)

Plasma Distortion Pedal
Tons of vinyl

I got a One recently and don’t regret it. Upgraded from a Touch, but still mainly use my 2500 or 5000 with Reason as that’s what I’m used to. But I like having a “current” MPC and this little One does everything I want it to do. Awesome little travel setup.

I had a MPC 1000 and went from that to a MPC Studio - quickly got rid of the MPC Studio. LOL. When my MPC 1000 met its maker, I decided to get a MPC Live. I have a “hardware” setup too:

Akai MPC Live
Roland JUNO-DS88 keyboard
Behringer EURORACK PRO RX1602 stereo line mixer
Numark PT01 turntable
Denon DN-350MP Bluetooth media receiver
ATH-M40x headphones

I’d get the MPC X now and maybe the MPC One later. I’m planning to get a MPC X in the near future. I feel like if you get the MPC One now, you’re going to want to upgrade in the future.

I had a lot of vinyl, but I’ve started slowly getting into e-sampling. My recently bought that Denon DN-350MP and I’ve been streaming into my MPC Live from my iPhone or whatever other Bluetooth device I have... It’s been pretty cool too.

Uncle Bees here with a magnificent 3 step plan for your decision making process:

1. write down what you need for your production
2. compare the specs of the x and the one
3. figure out which mpc suits your needs best based on what you need and the specs.

Bonus tip: Check out the manual(s) on both to get a better idea what the new line of mpc's can do and how they work.

Super secret bonus tip:
Pick up the Bible for the appropriate MPC from Tutor's sister site. It'll walk you through the workflows... and further help you learn if you want to go with the device or not before shelling out the full cost of the MPC.

MPC software or DAW, yep, you can.

Yes, I do it all the time. ONE isn’t capable of adding an internal hdd, use a large SD/USB for storage instead

Get ONE, it’s smaller if your don’t have much space. Better X version, no word yet, what’s ALREADY there is LEAGUES above a classic 2000.

I went through this same decision a few months ago, had a a 4k for 12yrs. Borrowed a friends Live and it changed my mind dramatically (I wasn’t hatin Nukai for not sticking with and/or expanding the 4k) and I immediately went looking for a Live, they were all sold out, I bought an X. 4k now sits in the closet (next to my 2kxl) and both haven’t seen the light of day in several months.

MAKE THE JUMP! BE HAPPIER!

ONE if you need to save space.
X if you want the extra knobs, ports, internal hdd, bigger screen.
