Can you warp tempo or change pitch from song mode?

Hi there,

Say you're working with a singer and need to adjust the pitch of an entire song to suit their range. Or you're playing live and want to up the BPM to suit the crowd but not alter the pitch - can you do this from Song Mode?

It seems the workaround is to 'Convert to sequence' but that obviously doesn't work live, or it breaks the non-linear/flexible MPC workflow and means you have to manage two versions of the song.

Tempo can obviously be changed during a song (on a per sequence basis, or globally), and any audio/clips can also be warped to match tempo (though the quality of how that sounds varies depending on the warp algo and how much you warp your audio), but is your intent to change the entire key of the song (all samples, audio/clips, everything)?

Yes. I do understand quality diminishes but I'd redo the track after. Instantly tweaking tempo and pitch is fundamental when writing with others I reckon.

As a side note, wouldn't master transpose be similar to changing tempo? Both process pitch and tempo simultaneously. I guess changing tempo doesn't alter the pitch of samples though.

I read somewhere these new MPCs use 32bit audio. I wonder if that limits power because an Octatrack can process 8 tracks with only 90MB of RAM.

Master transpose: sure, but let's say you pitch down -5. Your drums will sound.. probably not so cool anymore.

For live: you could make a mix down of all the instrument you have (leave the drums unless you want them pitched) in the song (so you have 1 loop with all the sounds), warp that, and then you can change pitch in program. The only thing is you don't have control anymore over the instruments since they are all mixed down. So you should make an arrangement in song mode first, convert to sequence, and then have 1 big sequence where you export all the instruments to 1 wav.
For studio: change pitch per program (except drums, unless you want to)
