Hi all, I am a little lost at the moment:

Basic assumption is that I do NOT use the software at all - standalone only (and I will not change the process :-))
- Recorded keyboards played via MIDI in a dedicated Audio recording,
- Recorded vocals in a dedicated Audio recording,
- all working fine
- saved (purge unwanted samples first ;-))
- still working as expected
- sample is saved and can be found in the project folder
- opening again next day
- Here comes my problem: my synth recording is not saved linked to the project file
- vocals are OK and persistent there

I have tried several different options - no success. I can relink the Audio file to the track, as the recorded file is still available. But is is stupid to relink the reording every time I open a project.

I used to remaster outside the MPCX, but as I found my way to do it all within the MPCX - that's the reason why I never encountered this before.

I am sure it can not only me who has this issue.

All hints are welcome!

I do purge all unwanted samples before saving projects.

The project files keep a lot of rubbish - external MIDI instruments I've tried out - but also the link to the file I keep losing:
<File>./Venus in Furs_[ProjectData]/M3_Rec2.WAV</File>
<File>./Venus in Furs_[ProjectData]/M3.Audio.xpm</File>

So it should be found. It happends to ALL external WAV files - except the recorded vocals. But it is exactly the same link:
<File>./Venus in Furs_[ProjectData]/Vocals.Audio.xpm</File>
<File>./Venus in Furs_[ProjectData]/Audio 001_Rec7.WAV</File> (I did not rename the audio file :-))

update:
Difference between the two ways of recording:
- Synth is recorded as MIDI to get all things right (easier than re-recording if an error occurs ;-))
- Run MPCX and record it via Audio input
---- losing the WAV link

Test:
- Life recording of a synth in the audio file
---- link to file is kept after reopening the project (like the vocals)

Now this looks like a real bug I assume - contacting AKAI is useless, as they do not answer anyways....

I will analyse the datasets to find out what the difference is.... keep you notified.... but not today anymore - there are other things to do....

Update:
got it - not the source of the issue, but the causing fact....

- my template is causing the the above mentioned problem. I own the MPCX since 2018 and I adjusted the template now and then when required.
As mentioned above, the template and the projects contain a lot of entries in the configuration I do not use anymore, a whole lot of rubbish....
- I have started now with a completely new and untainted template, and..... the issue disappeared.... all is now as one expects.
The software does NOT clean up tracks and programs in the config files. And that is something AKAI should improof.

For all to remember:
- The template is a fragile thing.
- My personal error was NOT to purge the unwanted samples before saving the template. (@dsy73 - you were on the right track when asking me whether I purge - I did not from the beginning 2018 when I started the template)
- I will do this from now on very carefully: Adding samples to the pads one-by-one and purge before I save the new status of the setup.

I hope I this will safe a lot of trouble to others...

FunFact: The MPCX was obviously planned to be called "MPC-V" - it can still be found in the config files. But as MPCV is commently used for "Multi Purpose Combat Vehicle" they nmight have dropped the "V".
