Twice in the last 24 hrs I’ve had an issue when shutting down the MPC X (on 2.6, standalone). The ‘do you want to shut down’ message appears, then when I proceed, the screen freezes and nothing happens, have had to disconnect power and the screen stays on (residual battery power I guess). When plugged back in and restarting I get the ‘recovered from a serious error’ (no surprise there) message. A bit concerning. Could this be a bad RAM problem? I’ve also been hearing glitches and clicks, mostly when using the plugins, which sound very like DAW redraw glitches when RAM or CPU stretched to the max sounds....

Hi NearTao... Not much, less than 10%, but it’s only got the factory content on it. I briefly, mistakenly saved to the internal SSD when I first got the MPC last year (after all, why wouldn’t I? I did it with every other MPC I ever owned!) but removed all my content when I found out that led to problems, so it’s just whatever was on there when I got it.

I have this problem on my live when I jam with a friend, never at home.
The difference to the home situation is that the MPC is powered on for more than 7-8 hours and uses Midi Clock, Midi in and Midi out for that time period.
Happened maybe 4-5 times, never at home in pure „standalone“..
More than enough space on both the internal Drive and the SSD.

To clarify: 2.6Gb free on the internal, which says a total of 14.5gb

1. Save that project or content that's on your built-in internal storage to an SSD, SD-Card, or USB storage and do a Factory Content restoration. Often this corrects many issues. The Factory Content restoration file should be in your Akai account for download, but if it's not - you'll need to reach out to tech support.

2. Have you considered upgrading to 2.9? There's some bug fixes since 2.6 has been released...

3. If getting that stuff off of your built-in internal storage and doing a Factory Content restoration doesn't fix your issue, and upgrading to 2.9 isn't an option, then you likely have hardware failure. But to be sure, I would remove all attached storage (make sure to soft "eject" first!) and try saving your content to a new attached storage device to eliminate the possibility that one of your currently attached storage devices aren't the problem. Is your X still under warranty?

Thanks EnochLight. I had stopped using the internal drive. I guess it’s possibly external drive issues but I’m suspicious...

I was going to go ahead with your suggestion and download the factory content to restore the internal SSD, had planned to do that before... but now, maddeningly, I can’t log into my account. This feels a bit like a doom loop...

Time to do a password reset?

Thanks again EnochLight. Finally got into my akai account, had to re-enable pop ups in my browser. The time wasted....

So I see all the factory content as separate expansions... I don’t see one consolidated factory content file though. Maybe they only made it available for the Live or the One?

Same here, I don't get factory content for the X. I think you should ask to Akai support for the file because the content is not the same between X and Live or One.

Thanks dsy73, I don’t know if you’re familiar with the idiosyncrasies of the old MPC4000 but contacting AKAI support for anything seems to be like watching the little girl who taps her feet forever while loading files on it... still, I’ve tried!

The Expansions you see there separately in your account are not the same things. You need to reach out to support and get them to send you the actual Factory Content restoration file. That will also restore the file structure, which often fixes a lot of quirks. It's close to the holidays, so expect it to take a while for support to get you sorted. Also, after you submit an actual support request, hound them on their Facebook as well as Twitter and YouTube until you get some help. They only have a few people handing all of their social media stuff. One or more are bound to respond.
