Hi folks,

Imagine this:

I make a song and i use a swing of 58.

I save and close my song.

I open an old song where i was using a swing of 62 and, if i go into TC settings, i still see a swing of 58.

So it hasn't remember the swing of the old song, it just keeps the last used value from the previous song.

Well that kinda suck a whole lot!

So a couple of quick questions:

#1: am i right, is that how it works?

#2: is there any way to look at a 16th note and determine what swing was used to quantize it?

I guess one can see that in the list edit, so will i need to create a table of what list edit timing coresponds to which swing value?

Anyone have any other words of wisdom for me on this?

EDIT: ok, looking in list edit doesn't help because it doesn't have enough resolution to show the swing value.

So the workaround (sheesh, another workaround) is to throw in a dummy note and mess around with the quantize until it's placement matches the other notes in the sequence.

Yeah, I hate that the last used settings are always defaulted to. I never noticed it when opening an old song. But this happens when switching from track to track with zoom, swing... everything. It's a PITA.

I was going to say, commit to memory note positions for everything from 51 swing up to the max you use.

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable can suggest something more efficient.

Swing is the percentage between the two adjacent notes, typically for the eighth or sixteenth notes, but you can apply this logic to any fraction of notes. So a swing of 50 is perfectly centered between the next two adjacent notes.

For this example, I'm assuming
* 4/4
* 960ppqn
* eighth note is 960/8, or 120 parts
* sixteenth note is 960/16, or 60 parts

Swing of 50 is telling you a note is halfway between the two adjacent notes or 50%... or an eighth note is 120 parts after and before the related two adjacent notes, and a sixteenth note is 60 parts after and before the related two adjacent notes. An important thing to note, going from left to right for the notes, the totally should always be double the parts.

And here is the math to show you how to figure out the swing of notes on 1/16 notes by looking at the event numbers.

To note... your odd notes should always be the same based on your swing level (in this case sixteenth notes). The even notes are the ones that get applied swing.

It has the same resolution as the machine itself.

While in LIST EDIT and automation not writing, change the swing and/or time correct. You will see in real time list edit notes change positions according to your q-link knob twisting.
Note your q-link value and/or note positions in LE (list edit).

Value is on shown on q-link led. The notes are shown in List Edit.
