Automation and effects

On a mpc live 2, trying to automate the air noise gate. Tried to automate turning the effect on and off, then tried automating the threshold. Nothing got recorded. What am I doing wrong?

Turn Automation on (Red W). Then Play Start....Automate your effects to the Last Bar. Then Make sure you Turn The Automation back to (Green R)
