way to listen music with mpc as sound card?

With my mpc ren i could start mpc software connect renaissance and then listen music through mediaplayers like VLC, but i appearantly cant do the same with mpc live 2?? i opened the software select the mpc as controller/sound device, but when opening music in vlc player i dont get any sound?? am i doing something wrong?? or is it simply not possible??
i currently copied music to my phone, and have the phone in the input 1/2 and listen that way....

*interjects* YES YOU CAN. put it in "controller mode" then you can select it as a soundcard and the reason for him wanting it is just. The mpc acts as a DAMN fine soundcard in your favorite DAW or movie player or whatever. It's effin great! It's my primary soundcard on all my pc's.

i can select it in my audio and volume settings but i dont get any sound when i play music through vlc player.... i probably am missing something, thanks for letting me know it is possible, and indeed i like to use my monitors to listen music and they are plugged in to my mpc live...
