Has anyone had luck with mapping pads from a matrix pad or keyboard via the "midi control" menu? I have had lots of success with midi learn feature but I havent managed to make any progress modifying channels cc's or notes in "Midi Control -> Hardware". Do these options not work what-so-ever?

I dont need a hand holding or a how to or anything I just want to know if it does or doesnt work for mapping pads. I've tried a bunch of devices and got nothing.

Wow what a mess around lol. I got what i wanted figured out. I wanted my the pads on my keyboard to work as both pads, and clip launcher like the mpc's actual interface. It wasnt doing it...

To fix it..

I set keybed channel and keybed local to 10 in the mpc.settings config via ssh. Then I used the mpk mini editor to change the midi channels of the pads and the keybed. Inversely, i put the keybed on channel 1 and the pads on channel 10 and then mapped all the pads starting at midi note 36 and ending with 51 across the two banks.

Now I can drum, launch, and key the way the good lord intended.

Devices on channel 1 cannot TOGGLE. I dont know why they just cant, they'll only send note on / off which is fine for keys, fine for drums but no effing good for clips. Use channel 1 for keys, channel 10 for pads.

I wish there was some kinda "akai's messed up midi protocol standard manual" I could just read to better understand wtf is going on.

I had all kinds of issues getting MIDI LEARN to work with my MPK over USB. Any thoughts on what might be going on here? InMusic support totally ignored my support ticket, which seems to be their MO these days.

When you’ve had success with MIDI LEARN has it been with USB- based MIDI devices or over the DIN ports? I haven’t had time to mess with this yet but I thought perhaps the issue I was having with MIDI LEARN was unique to USB devices. Otherwise it would just be broken AF, LOL :)

Both.

To make your MPK go to settings > midi/sync and toggle [master][track][control] to green. Then head back down to midi learn enable mapping and learning, press the + on the left of the screen and twist a knob or hit a button. it should populate the cc or note for you.
