Hi everyone,

I'm currrently making a house track and I want to mute the kick every now and then. But when I do obviously the signal of the kick that triggers the sidechain compression is gone and my bass, synths etc are kind of all over the place. Unmuting the kick brings me back to the harmonic sound that I want.

Digging into the various topics here concerning sidechaining I created a separate kick on a separate track. Now the problem is that you don't have the option of "no output" on the mpc one. So if I put it on "out 3/4" I still here the kick somewhere in the background.

In short, what can I do to create this effect of triggering the sidechain whilst having my main kick muted?

Cheers :)

If the silent sidechain-only-kick is routed to an output or submix that isn't routed anywhere or is muted, but you still hear the kick, you have a routing mistake somewhere. You have to troubleshoot, go through the whole chain from the tracks to the programs to their routings and sends. You do have separate Programs for the real kick and the silent kick, right?

One way to do it is with a Mother Ducker Input in the silent kick program's Insert effects, and a Mother Ducker in the channel you want to duck, for example a Submix where you've routed all the non-kick stuff.

Or use an AIR Pumper as an insert effect in the channel or submix you want to duck. Then you don't even have to have a track or program for the silent kick, and you don't need to do any routings.

Thanks, I found out that when I only mute the main kick which is part of my drum track, sidechaining works fine. Which is what I wanted to achieve :).
But when I mute the whole drum track (kick, hats, snare etc) the sidechaining isn't working. I do have separate programs for the real and silent kick though.

Just put the channel strip effect as pad effect on your kick after the mother ducker send and turn the volume on the channel strip to mute..

Edit to make it clear:

Effect slots on pad with the kick:
1 mother ducker send
2 channel strip with volume turned down
