No automation for submixes?

Is it only possible to record/play automation for programs and audio tracks, but not submixes etc.? I couldn't figure out how to automate submix insert plugin parameters. I turn on automation write mode, but it doesn't seem to be recorded anywhere.

Alternatively, is it possible to copy/paste already written automation for one insert slot into a different insert slot, like if I already wrote the automation for the last slot 4, but now I'd like to move the plugin _with_ all its automation intact into slot 3? That's why I tried using a submix.

No. You cannot automate effects on submixes, return or master tracks.

Ok, from the manual I figure that the whole submix thing was added in version 2.6. How about moving an insert effect from one slot to another with its automation intact?
