Insert effect enable automation?

I want to enable / disable an insert effect on a drum program using automation but can’t figure out how to do this.
I can automate the various parameters but just want to turn the effect on or off.
Is this possible using automation?

Some FX do not have a wet/dry... so you can setup a send/return, and automate how much you send to the send/return.
