In theory, yes, but you'll have to create four "round-robin/cycle" keygroups (with identical note mapping, etc) and treat each keygroup as a velocity range.

All this is a lot of work, unfortunately, because the MPC/Force doesn't have advanced keygroup management functions like say : "KG duplicate", etc, which could speed things up a little bit. I also wish there was a "KG delete" function, but that's another story.

No this isn't possible, velocity switching is overridden/ignored once you select 'rand' or 'cyc', so 4 individual 'cycle keygroups' assigned to the same note range will just play together simultaneously. It's currently not possible to mix velocity switching and round robins, and there is no work around, so it's still just a maximum of 4 round robins limited to the full 1-127 velocity range.

It is possible on the Force as you can use the envelope follower to continually trigger random slices on a pad layer, see here:

This requires that each velocity layer contains a 'stacked' sample that is comprised of sliced round robins. I have previously suggested to Akai that they could implement a 'random' slice option in program edit > samples, this would achieve the same result without relying on a 'project' setting like the envelope follower.

Wow I just did a quick test and you're absolutely right! .... I guess it's one of these things that are not clearly mentioned in the manual. I thought you could restrict a cycle/random keygroup to a specific velocity range but *nope*. Thanks for pointing that out. Anyway, that type of multi-keygroup/layer programming would have been extremely time consuming.

I still wish Akai would implement keygroup management functions, though. Sometimes I like to clean up a program and remove parts of multi-samples that I don't use (say, if I don't use the low or high octaves, etc) in order to save a bit of memory/loading time (especially for big multi-sequence live show projects), but then the only options are either 1) have a confusing program with empty "ghost" keygroups or 2) re-do the program from scratch.

(...unless there's a hidden "delete keygroup" function that I haven't figured out yet.)

Does this convert into 8-layer instruments for MPC/Force? :hmmm:

Haven't tested it , but on an update it adds multiple keygroups if the source has many velocity layers (more than 4)
