Questions about the MPC Browser & audio adapters.

Good morning guys!

I have a few questions for y'all. I'm guessing there's people who are far more knowledgeable about these topics.

So, question 1:

I have a 256GB SD card. I've been loading it with samples. I noticed that in the browser it showed 2048 items in total even though I have a lot more files. At first I didn't think about it too much. As the number of files grew I noticed that a lot of stuff didn't actually show up. The files only appeared if I searched for them. Which means that the MPC knows that the files are inside that folder but can only show a limited number up to the 2048 items.

Does this have a solution? Did I not format the SD card the right way?

I've been meaning to buy a portable ssd (I have an MPC One, and I know it's not optimal in terms of speed) to dump those files and become a full hoarder. I'm guessing it will behave in a somewhat similar way to those who have an SSD inside a Live or X. Does this "2048 items" file showing limit also happens to you guys on your ssd's or is it just an SD card specific thing?

I like having a folder where I dump everything to be fairly random while browsing. If this is something that cannot be solved I guess I have to create several sub folders in order to be able to actually "see" everything.

Question 2:

I bought a Y adapter to use on my MPC outs. I wanted to avoid using the phones jack input as much as I can because it seems to prone to fail. The adapter merges both outs into a 6,3 jack input. The issue is: When I connect the headphones I notice a huge loss of volume.

Did I buy a crappy adaptor or for some audio reason it's just how it is?

File/folder management is key ........ Yes, sub folders are the sensible thing to do.

Re headphone volume, you didn't accidentally turn the master volume knob on the back of the MPC one down did you?

I figured as much. I was hoping for a miracle. Still debating if I should organize the folders by artist or simply make a few and randomly throw stuff in there.

No, I checked. It does the same thing on my SP 404. It's loud enough to make it work but I was wondering why it happens. Or even if it's safe to use.

I don't know how anyone would find a single folder with thousands of samples in practical I'd imagine the MPC having to load a list that long will effect it's performance, maybe that's why there's a limitation.

On the One, there is only a single master output volume which does both main outputs and headphones, so not sure what your headphones problem could be. Does it work properly without your y splitter?

I can understand that. I'm super picky with folder organization. I hate folder diving. I reorganize all my drum kits and sample packs to keep it tidy without having to constantly enter a folder inside a folder. That's why I hate how the Splice integration works.

With songs to sample I don't really care. I actually prefer to have it this way. I even have all the files named like "Song Name - Artist" to make sure they are shuffled. I like the element of surprise and I try to keep it as random as possible. I just sit and scroll until I find something that catches my ear. If I really want something specific I search for the artist. It's a bit of a playlist philosophy, but I can see how chaotic it may seem. Surprisingly it loads pretty fast.

The headphones itself are working fine. If I change them around they work perfectly. I'm guessing it's the splitter that's causing the issue.

Your Monitors should be active, so I guess there's a lack of power in the outputs of the back of the unit. And the front headphone output is amplified. EDIT: I was just guessing and I was wrong. Tried this with my headphones and a Y cable and worked great.

That was my first guess. With my splitter they work. The volume is lower but not to a level where it's unusable.



This is what I bought btw.

The volume at the rear is not lower, only the volume at the front is higher.
So you can connect weak 30ohm headphones.

Ok, so that's why I don't hear the difference. Because my headphones are 250ohm.
And it is an impedance issue as I guessed at first.
