Reverb sounding metallic

As a selection of stock reverbs inside a hardware sampler they are perfectly fine IMO. Bunch of fuss-pots

I feel you. I started off with a DR-202, SP-505 & my first MPC was the MPC1000, so I'm not hating on all these cool FX's on the current gen :lol

I was spoiled rotten with the ASR88 effects, but the upgrade in workflow is still worth it.

That metallic tone definitely has a "sound". I think alot of it is just the plugin allowing it to go there (i.e. the range of the parameters).

Step 1, in the hi/lo page, the default init patch for Air Reverb cuts your lows. I always turn the Lo Freq cut all the way down first, and tweak for the song.

Just watch them highs! The "room size" setting has a massssive impact on the entire character, and that works in conjunction with the "ambience" & "density". Density is Diffusion on other reverbs. Turn amb & density to zero and check out how room size changes it. It's essentially a delay now. All its doing is "smearing" the delays together with those 2 settings. "Time" is how long those delays trail, i.e. "Feedback" on any delay.

I almost exclusively run verbs in the FX returns, not only to save the CPU from eating it, but to keep the song more consistent. Throw an air filter or channel strip in front of the verb on your sends too, just to chop the annoying frequency highs before it goes in.

Yeah you guys should hear the crappy reverb in my Waldorf synths..

At least my XV-3080 has similar verbs like my SRV-330, but treat it as an 'effect' and not as a 'room' and they're great!

I got the XV-5080 so I agree.

Man I want to get one of those one day. The 3080 is a rad 'preset' machine (programming those things SUCKS haha), but the 5080 can load samples!!
Thought about pulling the vintage synth card out of my 3080 and trading it for a 5080 hah.

I also have the MC-707, which has many of those waveforms, a sampler, better FXs since each track can have thier own & a better synth engine. I would get that instead. But the XV5080 sounds a little more 90s so I could see why that may desirable.
