Controller mode triggers: "The disk you attached was not..."

Since this morning, connecting the MPC-X to my Mac (macOS 13.2.1) causes the same error as an unformatted USB disk: "The disk you attached was not readable by this computer", with the options to eject, ignore or initialize.

Of course I won't initialize it! Any suggestions? Is there in the MPC something that could perform a disk consistency check, like in macOS' Disk Utility?

... also, if I try to run macOS' First Aid on the (unmounted) disk I get quickly an error saying "First Aid process has failed. If possible back up the data on this volume."

It was a false alarm. Apparently, my employer's IT people have killed all external storage at the operating system level, and hard disks, USB sticks and SD cards all look like corrupted devices. Sure, the error message could be more explicit.
