When I try to import this certain Expansion I created, I get an error saying " this expansion file is invalid" …
Has anyone else had this problem , know the fix?

yes.. into the software.. using 2.4 everything the latest version.. never had this problem in the past.. I dint know the expansion builder had a version, I always used the one that came with the latest installment of the software... When I drag it to the mpc software it says , expansion pack is not valid.. I tried renaming it, changing the picture, deleting the previews still the same thing

you mean all over again totally? Creating programs etc.. or just doing the expansion builder part? I might have to do it all over or just go in the programs and edit them.. smh

No, I rebuilt the xpn, in the expansion builder software.

I had a huge one that I ended up splitting into two. Still came up with error so I.:

Created two new programs

Dragged half the programs and samples to one of the new programs.

Created a new previews folder in and dragged incorresponding files

Created new sequences

Created the xpn

All worked so did the next one

I'm reviving this as I'm also having this error when trying to install an expansion I made with the MPC Expansion Builder.
I'm seeing you guys mention a 2.2gb limit but then elsewhere I see people saying there is no limit.

My current expansion is quite large. Roughly 17gbs.
It works perfectly fine in my Standalone MPC 2 (just installed by dropping it directly into the internal secondary SSD, non .xpn file, just folder).

Do I need to break this thing up into 9 "volumes" in order to get it to install on the software?

So by 'size' of the expansion, are we talking about the size of the 'source' contents folder you point the expansion builder to, or to the size of the resulting XPN file (XPN files are effectively compressed zip archives, so will be anything from 25-40% smaller than the source folder).

If there is a 2GB limit, then it definitely does not apply to the content folder size, as I sell several expansions that exceed this (2.4GB being the largest). But all my XPN files are smaller than 2GB (largest is 1.75GB).

The Akai 'Vault' expansion is around 6GB, so there's clearly no limit to the size of the expansion once it is installed, as it's just a folder of WAVs and XPM files. I assume any file limits are imposed during the installation process, where the MPC Software has to extract the contents of the XPN file.

Either way, if it's just for your own use you can 'manually' install a huge expansion into the MPC Software, i.e. just copy the standalone expansion folder to the relevant place on your disk. On a Mac user expansions can be installed here:

/Users/andy/Library/Application Support/Akai/MPC/Expansions

On a PC:

C:\ProgramData\Akai\MPC\Expansions

As long as your Expansion.xml file is configured correctly (the 'identifier' should definitely match the folder name, image file correctly entered etc), then the MPC Software will pick it up the next time you launch it. If you have expansions already installed there, take a peak at how they are configured.

My article about creating force expansions explains the set up of the XML file. I'd probably stick with using the 'reverse dns' style folder names, i.e.

com.whatever.yourexpansion

and have the identifier tag in the XML file match this.

If I get time I'll investigate this to see if I can find the actual XPN file limit, and will update my MPC Expansion Guide accordingly.

2GB the limit of 32 bit systems, perhaps this is related: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2_GB_limit

Just tested this and can install a 3GB XPN file no problem into MPC 2.12. I just tried installing the same XPN within MPC 1.9 on the same computer and no dice. I can install a 1.8GB XPN in MPC 1.9 no problem. MPC 1.9 is listed as being '32 bit/64 bit', although my version of MacOS only runs 64 bit apps, so I have to assume MPC 1.9 is running in 64 bit mode. But maybe 1.9 had this 2GB limit imposed.

So with limited testing, I can confirm it's definitely possible to install XPN files larger than 2GB in the current version of the MPC Software. why it might fail on certain systems I don't know (MPC 2.x is only 64 bit right?).
