Problems with Mpc Live 2 and Mpc X Se

Is it possible to get feedback on the reliability of the Mpc Live 2 and X Se?

I was almost in favor of ordering an Mpc X Se.

But when I saw the post about the touch screen problem, there was a lot of hesitation ever since.

Can you tell me the problems encountered with your MPCs (both hardware and software problems).

I am very happy with my Live2. Although heavy it is still rather portable (Thomann suggests a great bag that can also hold a small keyboard and a foldable laptop stand) and the speakers are actually OK. It lacks direct buttons, but once you wrap your head around holding menu and pressing the respective pads you won‘t miss much.

Less MIDI and audio I/O though. The only thing I really miss is the preamp for mic or instrument level stuff.

Isn't the 7-inch screen a little small for intensive use?

It is true that 4 Qlinks are a little tight for intuitive handling.

But as you say, once mastered, just a quick manipulation to implement.

At worst, midi controller with Knobs.

I use the screen as little as possible. It‘s easier to zoom and scroll or roughly editing end points. But usually I tap what I wan to change and use the jog wheel or Q-Links directly.

I‘ve used the Ren before and I could do much more with these 16 Q-Links at once, but I‘ve used the Studio, too, and got around switching banks quickly.

Only annoying thing with them on the Live2 is either you know which parameter you‘re tweaking - or the explanatory overlay hides the right portion of your screen. As long as you‘re not editing end points, it‘s okay. Otherwise, zoom in.

Regarding Live 2, what would be your advice to add a midi controller?

I was thinking of a Midimix, but I guess there are certainly more suitable midi controllers ( dimension of knobs, quality, etc... )?

Compared to my use, I will often use the touch screen, so it really must be reliable.

Also, a lot of knobs are really important to me.

The Mpc X Se includes a good part of what I need ( screen 10 inches, 16 knobs), but there are screen problems and it’s not really good.

A 10 inch screen is certainly more comfortable than a 7 inch I guess?

Now, the screen on the X Se version is further away, so, maybe the 7-inch screen of the Live 2 is better, seeing as closer to the user?

Best bet: Try it out at your local retailer or order it from some online dealer with a lenient return policy.

Getting MIDI controllers to work is more of a hustle, if that is an issue go for Q-Links and take the X SE.

A 10 inch screen sure is bigger, so is the X SE, so if desktop space is an issue, it‘s not that great. But touch screens have you place your finger over the parameter or note you‘re working on, which is annoying if you want to draw in notes - recording a performance is MUCH easier.

By reading your concerns I‘d guess the X SE might be your thing. Try it out. Although I have had issues with Akai hardware, my Live2 is reliable. Also, check out MPC-Tutor‘s buyers‘ guide for MPCs, although I can‘t seem to find the link ATM…

For the moment, the Mpc Live 2 is no longer available for a while.

If a midi controller, you must configure the knobs in midi cc with the editor.

It takes a little time, but once you're done it's easy.

It’s true that this screen problem doesn’t really reassure me, because it’s the centerpiece of the Mpc.

The Mpc Live 2 on the other hand is more ready so even if the smaller screen is perhaps not so annoying.

Regarding the space on the desk, no worries, I have room.

In fact, the Mpc X brings together a good part of what I need.

But reliability is essential for me and the feedback on the problems with the screen does not inspire me with much confidence.

I suspect many people have had this type of problem and maybe others.
