My MPC Key 61 CPU and RAM requirement info

Hi guys! If anyone has the following plugins, can you please let me know this: before I purchase MPC Key 61, I need to know if the CPU and RAM on the MPC Key 61 (in standalone mode) can handle the following 8 plugins/programs at the same time:


1. one drum kit track from MPC-Samples (The 1977 Session Kit (SSK Kit A or SSK Kit B - Velocity Kit). I think this one is 200MB in size if not mistaken

2. one electric guitar track (Les Paul Mute + Open program from Fabric XL with amp/cab fx)

3. one additional electric guitar track (Strat Mute + Open program from Fabric XL with amp/cab fx)

4. one electric bass guitar track (amped electric bass from Fabrix XL)

5. one acoustic guitar track (acoustic guitar from Fabric XL)

6. one Full Choir Aah track (from Fabric XL)

7. one orchestral strings track (orchestral strings program from Studio Strings plugin)

8. one Piano track (from Stage Piano plugin)


I know I can instead Fabric XL use Fabric but still I would prefer to use XL if possible.

You’ll be fine with the memory use but cpu is going to depend on how busy your sequences are, how many fx you add etc. probably fine but remember you can switch to keygroup alternatives if plugin cpu becomes an issue

Hi, MPC-Tutor and thanks so much for the info! That's good to know since my sequence and fx won't be that busy I really hope it can be done. BUT here in other thread B-Wise said: "If memory becomes an issue try using the non-XL version of Fabric or auto-sample it. Gotta keep your eyes on the CPU. FYI Studio-Strings takes up the most CPU, just 1 track used like 37%"

I wonder why one track of Studio Strings takes up so much CPU. If that's the case, do you still think I can do it, without the need to switch to keygroup alternatives and if my sequence and fx won't be that busy of course? Also, just wonder if two instances of amp/cab simulator fx plugin takes a lot of CPU (in standalone mode of course).

I’ve never had a problem with the Keys 61, and I put it to work. 8 instrument tracks, 8 audio tracks with vocals. A lot of plug-ins most I’ve got to is 54% CPU. Hope that helps.
