Odd behavior when using Bassline plugin

Hi,

Last night, I was recording an 8 bar bassline using the Bassline program. Oddly, it stops playing (well, the sound stops, but the playback doesn't) at the 5th measure. The bar length is set to 8, and it does it whether it's looping or not. How would I begin to troubleshoot this?

Couple of things to check, I only mention because they have caught me out before:
1. Check the loop length hasn't been changed by mistake (sometimes its easy to move a Q link). Go into grid edit to check.
2. Check there isn't a mute automation on somewhere (again, in grid edit, bring up the bottom automation arrow)

Oh yes, and more! Some real head scratchers. They seem to attract to me. But I came from DAWs, never used MPC prior so it was a whole new thing to me. But still things happen, only yesterday I was getting a volume reduction on vocals on just one track. Checked the sample edit and program screens, master track volume, track volume, pad volume, plugins, mutes, group mutes, even the ducker. All OK. Found the bastard sample set to 67 instead of 127 in the MIDI track channel mixer, a screen which I never use so how it ended up getting changed I have no idea! Took me 3 hours to bloody find that one. But I've deffo put mutes on without knowing I've done it, as well as left loop lengths reduced (such as when working on just a couple of bars), leaving the grid edit, doing some other stuff for an hour and then wondering why half my sample isn't playing back later...I now tend to be really careful what I'm touching, always open up loop lengths before leaving the screen and of course SHIFT-SAVE every 10 minutes lol

Despite the frustrations, the upside of troubleshooting odd things happening is that it helps you to learn your way around the MPC, silver lining and all that.

If you struggle to find where the mutes and loop length adjustments are let us know.

I checked the automation and loop length, and I even cleared the track and recreated it again.

Here's what it's doing.. when it reaches beat 5, it only seems to trigger notes in the bassline that hadn't been used before. But here's the key point... it only seems to do it on the sequence that has a drum program running. I figured this out by copying the kick drum pattern, pasting into an earlier sequence that had the drum program on it but with no data. Soon as I did that? Same thing... bassline stops at beat 5. Delete the drum pattern, bass line plays through the whole thing. I am truly baffled. And it's not the just the bassline synth, it's any of them. Did the same thing with tubesynth.

So why would a drum program cause a different track (on a different midi channel) to stop playing at beat 5?

I'm going to try loading a different drum program and see if it makes any difference. (EDIT - It doesn't)

Right, good you nailed it down some. So the drum program is causing some note drop-outs on the bass track.

At this point it's starting to get to a point of diagnosis which is a bit above my pay grade so I think this will fall to Tutor and others to sort (I'm sure they will).

Just a couple of things for clarity then - If everything is playing 8 bars, only the bassline notes that haven't been triggered before the 5th bar play? So the bassline is indeed playing for a length of 8 bars but you are only losing SOME of the notes in the 8 bar bassline, and only after the 5th bar?

It almost sounds like SOME of the bassline notes are on a mute group with the drums...to assist us with diagnosis, is that what seems to be happening? (even if it's not that)

Apparently, it all had to do with me overlooking the input configurations. I think my Keylab was also sending out something else simultaneously. I'm not sure why it would matter, given the MPC is playing back something already recorded, but when I made sure that everything was assigned (specific controller, specific channel, etc), it instantly fixed the problem. It doesn't make sense to me, but I'm glad it was fixed.

Ah glad you got it sorted! Given the cure, it would certainly have had me stumped as I never external MIDI anything!
