I have seen many concerns over the pad mapping on the MPC Live 2 not lining up to the pads on the legacy AKAI MPK mini. When you hit bank 1 pad 1 on the MPK, it corresponds to some other pad on the MPC! Here is how I managed to solve this. Not sure if it's the best way, but it's the only way I've found to work.
Step 1: On the MPC LIVE 2, load both a Drum Program AND Plugin Program.
Step 2: In MAIN, with the Plugin Program selected, go to Grid View
Step 3: On the MPK mini, hit PAD BANK 1 : PAD 1. You will hear a note played on the MPC.
Step 4. Back to the MPC LIVE 2: In Grid View, find the note that was played by pressing the little piano keys on the left hand side of the screen. For me, the note was Ab1. Remember this note!
Step 5: In the MPC LIVE 2 MENU, select MIDI CONTROL
Step 6: Under Control, make sure it reads PAD 1
Step 7: Under NOTE, you'll see number and a note value. Change this note value to the same value that you remember from Step 4.
Step 8: Go back to MAIN, and select the Drum Program. Go to EDIT, then EDIT PAD NOTE MAP
Step 9: Select PAD 1, then change this value to the note value you remember from step 4.
Step 10: Do this for every pad. You can customize this way also. For example, my kick wasn't on pad 1 on the MPC Live, but it is on the MPK mini.
