Hi all...

I have a Live II that I want to sync to UAD's Luna, which notoriously doesn't slave to anything.

Got it working perfectly in controller/plugin mode using Midi Translator Pro to detect the MMC/Sysex from the plugin and having MTP output a 'spacebar' message to start/stop Luna. Works exactly like the MPC does in standalone.

The difficulty is trying the same thing with Live II in Standalone mode (how I want to work).

Live II syncs perfectly to Luna if I start/stop from DAW (using Akai's MIDI Network over ethernet); but because Luna doesn't respond to MMC, if I press the buttons on the Live II, the MPC starts but Luna sits there like a lame duck.

If I try the same solution (cf controller mode) using MTP, a transport button press on the MPC starts the MPC, sends the MMC to MTP which converts it to a Spacebar message. This starts Luna which then sends MMC/Midiclock back to the MPC which is already running so it ends up in a stuttery sync mess.

Am I right that there is no local off for the transport controls on the MPC (I can't find any options in the preferences). That would solve the problem.

Anyone got any ideas? I'm out of them.

There's no great solutions for this. This was one of the reasons I quit using Luna.

One thing I did was use a combination of Expert Sleepers USAMO and Expert Sleepers Silent Way Sync plugin. It will use up an output channel on your UAD interface but you get the hardware midi clock out that you're looking for. Can confirm it works.

I just slave my MPC to the DAW (Cakewalk), using Midi Sync and MTC. Then use the transport on the DAW, not the MPC.

I given up on my synths sending and receiving midi at the same time and fighting Midi feedback loops, so I wouldn't go near that with my DAW sending MTC and my DAW sending MMC. I mean, it would be cool to use the MPC as a master Transport, but the keyboard is in front of me (I do have a Logitech keyboard with Rewind play/pause FFWD buttons built in, but tend to still use the spacebar)
