Hi All,
Was running V2.13, now 2.15. MPCX, Standalone mode ( never use it any other way).
TLDR:
As the subject states TC,PPQN, and triplets have their tick count divided by 2.
I created a new project with the aim of using a very basic drum kit as a glorified metronome to practice triplets on my bass guitar. So, new project, TC set 8T, two bars, into the sequencer and I notice the grid has divided up the bar into 6 not 12. So 8T actually equates to 4T (triplet quarter notes). To get the required 12 divisions in the bars I need to set TC to 16T, a setting which should result in 24 divisions in the bar (6 to each beat). BTW, the project defaults for PPQN is 96. So, anyway I hand ball in my basic rhythm and it works but something is bothering me because of this apparent discrepancy.
So I create another project and load up drum kit. In the list editor this time I create all the notes one by one and notice that as you ‘nudge’ a note towards the next beat from 0 ticks (I.e. bang on the beat) the next straight 8th note happens at 48 ticks and the next beat at 48. Bearing in mind the project is set to 96PPQN! So if I want 8th triplets I need to put the first on the beat at 0 ticks, the second at 16 ticks and the third at 32. Something is not right here as there’s supposed to be 96PPQN, so the tick count for these triplets should be 0, 32, and 64.
Now, I’m almost 100% sure in previous firmwares I’ve programmed triplets correctly as 0, 32, and 64 and the grid has matched exactly what I expected when I changed TC.
Another thing I noticed about this is when ‘nudging’ without snap in the sequencer 1 tick equals 2 clicks on the encoder. That may or may not have always been the case. E.g nudging a note from say 1:1:10 to 1:1:11 requires two encoder clicks.
Any thought, opinions, verifications or even ‘no mate, it’s time to take up basket weaving’ would be greatly appreciated because unless I’m doing something stupid (or not doing something I should be) then I think the firmware somewhere has taken a step back.
