Controlling Ableton VST's on MPC Live II using Ableton Link

I am trying to control the VST's in ableton through the MPC using Ableton Link.

I remember having it working a year ago. But now it doesn't work anymore. I've upgraded to Sequoia but also on Monterey it's not working.

I have Akai professional Network midi running but also the ESI Midimate Midi to USB with Midi in and Midi out:



The Ableton Link button in top left corner of ableton is blue and shows 1 linked device. The MPC Midi monitor shows the inputs and outputs. When I press play within ableton, MPC starts playing. When I press play on MPC, ableton starts playing.

However, when I go on the MPC to Menu, Control it says "Waiting for communication from Ableton Live". I'm expecting to control the ableton Session view from there.

Had the same problem in the past. Disabling and enabling the network in the mpc helped. I also remember there was some short of sequence that i had to follow, like loading ableton first, then turning mpc on.
