on the mpc one can I use a powered usb hub to gain more usb slots for my keyboard controller and hard drive and if so which brand as I have an insignia from Best Buy and it doesn't work

Yes @ powered usb hub. any brand doesn't really matter which.

It's probably a bit more $ than some random hub from Amazon. But I like that it has an optional power supply via USB C which makes it very versatile for uses in and outside of MPC usage. Build quality is very good.
