MPC - User-created pad note maps

That's seemed to be the case, but I wonder why they rechecked the ticket after the first guy dismissed it? Was it part of Akai's protocol or luck?

I was just using Studio Piano on my last project & it's really nice but it's a power hog. 4GB would've came in handy, but it made me do a workaround that ended up improving my workflow, so whatever

Akai was finally able to reproduce the bug reliably given my instructions so it's been sent to the firmware team. I dunno what that means in terms of timing. It's a pretty big and obvious bug for folks wanting to use Custom pad maps but that might be a small subset of folks using MPC. Based on what I think the issue is, I suspect it should be at least somewhat easy to fix at least. I think it's something with generating the JSON mapping for the pads that is where things are getting messed up but just hazarding a guess since of course we don't have access to the source.

Great news! I had to save some pad mappings for some devices as separate tracks. That section of the device could be revamped.

Akai mpc expects this:

Channel 1 - Transport Control (sliders and knobs on midi controller)
Channel 7 - Keyboard (keys midi controller)
Channel 9 - Drums (drum pads midi controller)
Others - whatever gear you have.

Use the akai midi note editor thingy for pc on your mpd and change the drum pad channel to 9. This is crucial.

Also map your note numbers for the pads from 35-52 iirc.

After you've done this you wont need to map anything through software on the MPC itself, it will just work plug and play.

For those of you using a synthesizer keyboard with proper midi, just change the channel to 9 and you should be able to control the drums.

Channel 9 for drums? That was an odd decision by Akai given historically it's been channel 10. The custom pad issues also plague CV outputs too unfortunately. Those are the ones I need the most since I use my own sampler module ([ur="https://waveboy.bitbybitsynths.com/"l]Waveboy[/url] for the curious) and need to map V/Oct in a slightly different way than just chromatic so I can map all 16 pads to all 16 samples. I could easily see using pads for CV in this way for other drum/sampler modules as well.

I don't recall those being in the list of offerings. I chose Stage Piano. I grabbed one of the pianos off mpc-samples.com about the 3rd day I had the MPC because I tended to use piano for idea boarding when using Ableton and didn't have a corollary ready to go. It did the job, but figured I would see what SP was about. I tend to mostly use the MPC as a MIDI/CV controller and song sequencer. Although I am slowly starting to use samples I run through it. I use my Eurorack sampler because it's quirky and lo-fi which is usually what I'm after - though not always. Being able to sample my Drumbrute Impact through the MPC was nice since I tend to run out of hands when I wanted to modulate the Impact and the rack plus any synths I wanted to live play (vs just record the MIDI CCs).

I love the Impact's Snare 2. That's what sold me on the thing since you can make it this almost reverberated whip with a long tail or a clap/snap but you have to adjust the knobs to do that. It's quite fun and I like the Arturia embraced it as a performance drum machine of sorts (which also helped lower the cost to build it I'm sure). But when I can't do that, MPC to the rescue!

Apparently the MPC One doesn't have as good of overdrive as other models? But I found it to be really nice actually. I found it by accident when I had the input turned up a tad too high and was like "why does the kick sound so good!?!"

Long story to say I haven't used many of the software plugins on the MPC yet

The Tube Drive FX is nice & don't forget about the 8 drum Fx per pad.
