Assigning samples to pads on a new project

Hello everyone. I am new to this machine. I have recently got a MPC 37. Im just messing around and learning it.
One thing I am having trouble with, is when I start a new project. I can load the samples from my SD card but I cannot assign them to any of the pads. If I drag and drop it just does nothing.

However, If I were to use a demo I can. Lets say I just start up the machine and select "Drum and Bass", then go to browser, load up a sample from my SD card and then go to SAMPLE ASSIGN I can clear any demo samples off the pads and simply drag and drop the samples I want to use from my SD card. I cannot do this simple task if I do a blank/new project.

So its not an issue with the SD card being on read only mode or something SD card related. I just have no idea why I cannot load up samples and assign them on a new project, but I can if I select a demo on the start screen.

Am I missing a step before I can assign them to the pad that somehow the Demo surpasses?

I believe the first track in a new project on the key 37 is a plugin track. Go to main and change the track to a Drum track and you’ll be able to assign samples to the pads

Thank you for your help. I was able to figure it out before this post was approved by mods by tinkering with it for a bit. I will leave this tutorial here for anyone with the same issue who stumbles on this thread.

Turn on MPC
At the Select Demo Page, chose Empty Project at the bottom left corner
You should now be lead to the INSTRUMENTS page with all the sounds to select from
In the Upper left corner, tap the left arrow ← next to INSTRUMENTS
You should now be at PROGRAM TYPE, by default Plugin should be selected with a white highlight around the Plugin thumbnail.
Select Drum.
This will then bring you to DRUM PROGRAMS page. You don't have to select anything. Drum mode is activated.
You can now tap the 5 lined diamond icon in the left corner of the screen next to the left arrow icon ←.
Select Home and instead of plugins DRUM PROGRAM should be the 3rd section on the project page.
You can now go to Browser, select places, go to your SD card, Load a sample, and then you can Assign it to a pad.

The OS is a bit awkward to navigate and it feels like the programmers just expect users to get it off the bat. Lets be honest we just spent $500+ on these machines and too excited to read a boring direction booklet. But after a few hours of playing around with it and experimenting with all the different settings and options, things start to click .
