JJOS Projects to MPC Live or Software

The continuing saga after a frustrating weekend full of old man yells at cloud energy, I dialled the OS back to v2!
Instantly way more intuitive, all my sequences & tracks were intact, programs / samples still need some tweaking & mixing, but nothing I feel like I can't handle.
The MPC3 OS was too much of a jarring departure from how I work & use an MPC for my old ass brain to acclimatize too..

So I decided to undergo a little bit of this process myself to see if it's worth pursuing all the way and will post the results of my own findings here. (Long story short, it's mostly importing .PGM files and .SEQ/.MID files)

Other people have reported similar results, but I wanted to add a little more depth to it.

MPC 1000: JJOS2XL Version 3.83
MPC Live 2: Version 3.6

First off...I saw a video of someone connecting a 1000 directly to their Live via USB. I *assume* this works on any legacy MPC with USB...but I could be talking out of ass, so try at your own risk, as I haven't even tried it. Personally, I did CF card into PC via multicard reader, USB stick into PC, drag & drop from CF card to USB stick. Pretty standard.

Now, I'm going to try to list the files in order of significance i.e. most efficient way you typically save & load, while further breaking everything down into it's own save/load file

First off: .PRJ file
Ideally you want to load Projects because they contain everything, I found it pointless: only thing that populated was my Program. On the 1000 I created multiple sequences with multiple tracks, recorded Drum & MIDI information...nothing carried over. Four sequences with multiple tracks on each sequence (1000) translates to only 1 sequence with 2 tracks (both Drum tracks: first was blank, second was my Program) on Live 2

Conclusion: loading .PRJ files not viable

Second, .PGM File
Mostly no issue loading Programs onto the Live. However, filter settings did not transfer, forgot to set up LFOs, no different audio output routings, also didn't map mutes/chokes/simuls...all other settings seemed to be unaffected (tuning, envelopes, mono/poly). Samples imported at the correct pitch/tuning. It has been reported that samples need to be retuned by others though. If I'm not lazy, I may test out more program settings and edit this post with that information.

Conclusion: importing .PGM is doable

Third, the .ALL files
Can't get a Project to load, but we'd hope to load an .ALL file because it's the next best thing, right? Because we already got our Programs in there, yeah? Well loading these does nothing. It does not even create more tracks or sequences like loading a Project does. You will not be able to conveniently import all your sequences & songs at once in this file format.

Conclusion: importing .ALL files is pointless

Last are .MID files & .SEQ files
Seems both imported the same. Keep in mind: saving .SEQ on the 1000 states "Save With MPC1000 Specific Events" and saving .MID states "MPC1000 Specific Events Are Lost"...so something could be lost in not just importing, but in saving itself. So I saved 3 different sequences: two as .MID and one as .SEQ, all with multiple tracks & track types. While note data imports...track configs do not i.e. *every* track will be set to MIDI and to MIDI channel 1 in the Live (even your Drum tracks, etc). So now you have to go through each track, load programs/samples into ones that were formally Drum tracks, and figure out which MIDI channel each & every one was on originally. Tbh, I did not think to name a track or two on the 1000 before importing to see if it carries over, that would make sorting out tracks easier.

Conclusion: importing .MID & .SEQ files is possible if you remember how every track was set up, their MIDI channels, which programs & samples were assigned to tracks & pads, etc.

Fortunately I have a small project I'm not too deep into on my 1000 right now, so I can go either way with resampling some sequences & tracks, or import the few MIDI files & programs I've got going on. I would say if you're transferring from JJOS to a Live or X, you're mostly just going to be importing .PGM files and .SEQ/.MIDI files and having to rebuild from there.
