mic xlr input

i was having issues with my sm58 mic plugged into xlr 1 sounding super hollow. I then realized that when i go to input for input1 and set it to mic, its using the internal mic. Even if i click mic on then off, then switch to combo back to mic it would turn the internal mic on. I know because i moved my sm58 way away and the mic never changed volume. When i switch to combo, it uses my sm58 and sounds much better. Does combo mean i cant plug my guitar into xlr 2? if so then why cant i get the mic option to use my sm58 instead of the internal mic

The type of input connector on the back of the mpc is known as a ‘combo’ in the outside world - it takes both xlr and jack connectors. If you have the manual handy have a look at page 284.

When selecting which input you are using on a track, ‘MIC’ is the built in mic. ‘COMBO’ is the xlr/jack connector.

You are 95% of the way there. You’ve got your SM58 in a combo, and using the ‘XLR Gain’ slider for gain. When you plug your guitar in to the other combo, using the jack input part of it, you will use the ‘TRS Gain’ slider to set the input gain.

I’ll also be using the combo in to run my mic into for live sets, it’s one of the reasons for me getting an mpc live 3.
