Running into the same problems
Got the mpc live 3 on launch day, totally new to mpc and all, coming from maschine etc. But loving the workflow and power of this unit :worthy:

I am encountering the same problems of the screen beeing on responsive now and then. And it’s happening more and more the last couple of days..
Somethings its when booting up the system. The start button doesn’t respond for 30 seconds to a minute, and other times it works right away. it’s also happening when working in a project then al of a sudden the screen freezes but the rest works. Then after 1-2 minutes it’s responsive again.

Ive read here that it can be caused by installed expansions and stuff. But I have not installed any plugins or expansions yet. Just some sample libraries running from a SanDisk pro 128gb drive. I am planning on installing an internal ssd later.

Is my unit faulty or am I missing something here?

We've pretty much said the opposite, an expansion is not able to freeze your system, not unless you have 8GB of expansion images in your expansion folder and they are zapping all your available RAM (average expansion contains a single image under 1MB).

Freezing can be caused by many things - software bugs, faulty disks, peripherals not playing nicely, inherent hardware faults, excessive CPU, a completely filled 'temporary disk', maxed out RAM. Rule out what you can (e.g. take out removable disks, monitor RAM and CPU usages, make sure disks are not full etc) and if it continues then it's likely inherent hardware issues or obscure bug that's only affecting a small selection of units.

Thank you for your response. And probably I didn’t read it good, my bad. I’ll try some more troubleshooting, I just wasn’t sure if it’s something that can just happen now and then or shouldn’t really be the case. If it has to do with the unit being that new (bugs), and if more people are encountering the same issues. Which as of what I can find now doesn’t really seem the case.

I’m still working in very small startup and discovering projects so it’s can’t really be ‘stress’ on the hardware. Which would make a lot of sense if that was the case. I will try a bit without the sd card and format the sd card etc and see if that does anything.
Otherwise I’ll just have to get in contact with Akai I guess. :(

I’ve got my unit replaced today.
I made some videos of the problems and got in touch with the shop where I got it from. They saw the problems and without any more questions offered to replace the unit since it shouldn’t be doing that. Seems like I just had a bad unit.. Happy that I’ve got it replaced now and that it wasn’t some bug or software problem.

Interestingly, I'm experiencing this as well with my MPC Live 3. I've had the machine on all day, left it for a couple touchscreen is completely unresponsive. Force rebooting is NOT fixing it. No peripherals are attached. All buttons seem responsive (triggering on screen messages).

I'd previously been in controller mode, returned to standalone mode, left the machine for a couple of hours and it's frozen on he initial 'demo' screen page.

Seem to have fixed it. I unplugged power and rebooted on battery power. Still seemed frozen, pressed the power button, shut down confirmation message appeared and I pressed 'shutdown' (expecting it not to recognise my touch) and the screen actually worked and shut down the machine. Rebooted with power attached and all seems fine. Hopefully just triggered a random bug in 3.7 rather than the start of an ongoing issue.

Are you on the "stable channel" public release, or an active beta? And yes, I realize those two things may be one in the same...

Happened to me a couple times. I was knee deep into a Project before saving it. Everything else worked except the Screen was unresponsive. I Laid it down for bout 10minutes...then...BOOM!!!!!! The screen started working. I hurried up and saved my Project. Its weird...You NEED the screen to Save your Work

I *think* this happened to me briefly yesterday on my Live 3, but chalked it up to user error...but...

This definitely happened to me over the weekend on my Key 61 running live 3.7. I was in mixer mode, and the screen became unresponsive. Ultimately the machine crashed and rebooted, and then it was okay.
