Poll: MPC 'Live' or MPC 'X'

Hi MPC fam,

I know we are still waiting for the world wide release but I would like to measure the Balance between the 'Live' users and the 'X' users on the forum.

So:

1) You were lucky and already own a new MPC;
or
2) Preordered a new MPC;
or
3) Waiting for them to be released first before you purchase a new MPC.

Make a choice between the 'Live' or 'X'.

Waiting on my X from Bax (UK) says 10 business days on the NL site it says 8 days.... Hoping its soon!

Got the Live

X would be overkill for me though, I own an MV8.8k which is my studio piece.

I think you'll be waiting for a bit longer than that, unfortunately. I'm only guessing, for your territory, but I'd imagine stock may be due in July.

Got the Live for portable music making when away from the lab and the X will be the center. i use hardware only and no computer for music production.

I also ordered the X from Baxshop (But in NL). I also hope for a simultanous release with the Live. But I don't want to get my hopes up.

Already called them a few times and the dates keep changing..

I don't understand why it should take this long. The live was submitted to the FCC back in November and the X one month later..

Its already been a half year..!!

I read somewhere ( or heard it on a video from an akai spokesperson) that the X would enter production in late April. If that was the case perhaps this explains the delay.

Im going for the Live because its portable, dope sequencer of course , battery, compact, AD/DA converters and cost efficient. I didn't have to spend 1,199.

Thanks for taking your time to state why you've chose the Live. If I could edit my first post I would ask for others to do so as well.

This might help others with their decision.

Zang are you having second thoughts about the X?

I know I am, I was set on the X but I still find it very expensive for what it is when compared to the Live.

I might end up getting the Live and digitakt.

Preordered and paid the LIVE at T*mann.

Besides the cheap allrounder Blofeld it will my first decent electronic gear.
Previously used Ableton on our family computer but that doesn't work - need a machine that's not able to run minecraft and online shopping

We a have various instruments hangin' aroud here: e-piano, guitar, cello, cond. mic, percussions, ... so i was looking for machines to record these (audio tracks, looper) and making beats. Hey, and this is all in one plus the possibility to get away playing around with the sounds.

Initially planned to do mostly straight four-to-the floor. But inspired by the forums (didn't know much about the mpcs) i have to do at least one hip-hop track (tribute to the machine). And i will revive my DnB-Ego ...fingerdrumming might be fun for me.

We'll see...

No I dont, And it's mostly based on my experience I have with the MPC Touch.
Controlling wise the Live is going to be the same as the MPC Touch.

I've had the MPC Touch for a year and I was quite satisfied with it, but there a few things that i didn't like:

Dedicated << >> buttons missing;
Only 4 Qlinks;
The volume knob is at the backside of the unit;
The touchscreen felt very unresponsive (I'm glad it's been fixed in the Live and X);

Coming from the MPC 2500 the Touch felt like a upgrade and a downgrade at the same time.
To me the 'X' is like the machine I wanted both the 2500 an the Touch to be.

And then there is the look of the unit. Believe me or not but looking at your gear can bring up
up a lot of musical inspiration. I get inspired just by looking at photo's of the 'X'.

The MPC Touch was great and it gets the job done and so would the Live. But I want something
that is going to be the center of my studio for the years to come. I want something that is going
to fit in my workflow.

I don't want to invest in a device that will most likely give me the: What if I went for the 'X' feeling.

On the other hand it's also more like a gift to myself for finishing school tomorrow.

There are still a few things missing that I would like to see in the coming updates:

1) Copy and paste in grid edit mode;
2) Project overview in stand alone, just like the way it looks in track view on the PC;
3) Side chaining;
4) A way do draw lineair lines in automation as well as a way to automate the submixes and master bus;
5) More audio tracks;
6) Akai to communicate better, Keep the customers updated there is no shame in telling us what's causing the delay. And even if you can't tell us about the exact cause. Tell us about a new date you are aiming for to release the units. Support us so we can support you.. Feedback goes both ways.. It's the same as trust.

@starmanwarz try to keep going for the 'X'. If it's not what you expected it to be return it within a month and go for the live instead. I you return it you will have some extra cash in hand to burn on some other sweet gear..

Yeah hold out for the X, it should hit stores in a couple weeks...US at least.

My original plan was to buy the Live. I need a portable version of my Roland MV8800. I'm now waiting to see if Akai fixes drum program warping in standalone mode. I also need 16 mono audio tracks & a better implemented library search browser.

I've learned (the hard way) to buy hardware for the features it has currently NOT on false promises of "coming soon" features that may never materialize. So I will try to wait patiently until Akai adds missing advertised features. If Akai fixes & adds the missing features then I may buy an X too.
