Hello everyone,,
What do you guys think of the time-stretch? was it better with the old mpc's? (only had a 1000 for a short while).

I am asking because i have a hard time making my disco samples sound good, even 4-5 bpm increase is too dirty/much artifacts for my taste.

So then i tried the "Match" to BPM with Tune (which sounds REALLY cool for this kind of housemusic) but the problem i have now is i cant play over it with a bass or piano because its pitched like +1.76, so it clashes :(

In this case i only can use a filtered bass version of the sample thats it.

I think i will use the warp on ableton and maybe also the pitch because im not so fond of the pitch-shift in the Live (need to test it on more samples though).

Yeah timestretch and warp are not good on current Mpc.
i started to slice loops manually on sample edit in bpm sync, I got much better results this way.

Yo Bamda,

lol, did you really copy and pasted my post from Fri Sep 21st, 2018...ROFL

I love the time stretch on the live (standalone) .. and if they update the algorithm down the road.... i hope they have the option to still use this algorithm.

Admittedly, the MPC Live is my first proper MPC, so all I can compare to is time-stretch algos available in other things. To be frank, in standalone mode the MPC Live's forced "MPC Least CPU" time-stretch is one of the worst I've ever heard. Hardly even usable, almost laughably so.

The desktop MPC Software's "Elastique Pro" sounds fantastic, and is what one should expect for pro-level gear. If this is a CPU limitation, then the MPC Live/X in standalone should automatically transcode the time-stretch into bounced clips using an "Elastique Pro" setting. Not sure why Akai never addressed this.

Yeah, I also think it's the worst I ever used.
But I don't see any chance to implement software elastic audio into Mpc standalone anytime soon. Just not enough powerful cpu and that's it.
It works on software because it relies on much better computer cpu and that is one thing to think about.
Some features are not available due to an ordinary cpu board for tablets on standalone.
The next logical step is to implement a better cpu on standalone.
Did you try to slice your loops manually from sample edit and assign them to a program?
It gives some decent results, much more then the warp algorythm.

Yeah, I tend to resort to slicing as the results seem to be better. A workaround to the CPU limitation would be to optionally have any time-stretching automatically bounced to a clip during playback. This is similar to how Reason handles time-stretching by rendering audio in the background (yes, I realize a desktop CPU is far more powerful, but there are certainly ways around it).

I thought that setting had to do strictly with the Warp feature?? Warp and the time Time Stretch in sample edit are two completely separate things aren't they? I don't remember seeing anything in the manual about Time Stretch using the same algorithms, but maybe Akai just assumed we're supposed to know that?? That would really be odd if it affected the Time Stretch process. Thats destructive and permanent. Why would anyone need to use the cheapest 'least CPU' option when you could always use the Elastique one since you're rendering the file anyways?

Right, but warp is just another name for time-stretch done in real-time. It's using the same/similar algo to do the math. The point is, Elastique Pro isn't an option in standalone in real-time since the CPU is limited, hence the suggestion to render via Elastique Pro in the background (while perhaps using "least CPU" as a preview). That said, with Akai's already mountain of feature requests they are yet to deliver in Live/X, I doubt we'll ever see any improvement. :(

Ahh I gotcha. I wonder now what the settings are for the regular old time stretch in the sampler now. Its offline so I would hope that they are using the best algorithm for it. Ive dropped like Amen breaks down to half their tempo and it sounded ok. Alot better than I remember ACID doing it 20 years ago haha. Im pretty sure the support folks over at Get Satisfaction said to someone that Elastique was way too CPU heavy to put on the hardware, and I don't think it runs in Linux either.
