CD Rom with MPC X, Live, One.

Does anyone know of any CD Rom drive or floppy disk drives that are compatible with the new MPC's?

Not sure about CD Rom, but external usb floppy and zip drives work.

What is this "CD ROM" and "ZIP" drive you speak of?

I guess nobody uses the akai sample library for the s series anymore? The Spectrasonic cds was pretty good as well.

Does USB CD-ROM work? I don't have one to test.

I've got an older USB powered DVD drive... it has two USB ports to provide enough power to the drive.

First attempt... it wouldn't power on from the MPC. So I tried it on the computer... and it powered on just fine... though wiggling the cables I found even on the computer it was loosing power.

Second attempt... after fiddling with the cables on the MPC I could get it to power up the DVD drive... but it wouldn't mount any CD-ROMs I threw at it.... I tried mounting some sample DVDs... no bananas either. Finally I tried putting in an audio CD... still nothing. I cannot rule out that it might be the drive... but all of this stuff mounts on my PC no problem.

My guess is that the MPC One/X/Live do not have the drivers necessary to mount CD/DVD drives, but it might also just be my 10'ish year old drive is the problem.

YMMV.

One other note... on my Mac... I couldn't get it to mount my S1000 sample CD. I was going to try and import the audio into the MPC Software to see if it would be able to do that... but no bananas there either. Doh.

Just tried 2 separate, powered external usb cd/dvd drives.

Both were recognized, showed and played wav data and wave audio on Kronos2 just fine.

X didn't recognize either drive, nothing, didn’t even budge.

Yes, you can charge a mobile device on X, it supplies power, useful and probably by design for usb powered controllers. Someone said “nice that I have a $2000 dollar iphone charger”.
I’m gonna go ahead and say it, that’s a stupid ass thing to say when you KNOW the power is there for usb powered controllers.

Kind of a bummer... but the only use for me would have been to possibly load old sample CDs and import them... I've been able to load some of this off of USB CF/Floppies... so for me it isn't a must have feature... since I don't have that many audio track sample CDs that I'd consider to record off of...

Thank you for testing, I guess backing up to Archival BD-R Discs is out of questions.

When I was checking... I was seriously wondering if my CDs/DVDs had rotted and were no longer readable... seen that happen a few times... :/
