I got the Live the first week it came out and am tempted to buy the 2 just based on the fact that it is more portable for me than using my current bluetooth speaker and the old Live in one laptop bag.....I like the new buttons/layout too. Is anyone else thinking of upgrading?

Be Patient My Man...See what the Reviews are for awhile.

I was an Early Purchaser of the Live as well. Back when it had LOTS of Bugs. I remember one Bug, where it took LITERALLY...3 + Minutes to Boot up  Etc Etc

Nah Im good, Ill wait for the next one that has an actual hardware rev.. I was bummed when I noticed the Mix/Grid/Sampler buttons (and the TC button would RULE) and yeah I could use the CV with my modular and could've saved the $20 I paid for a USB-Ethernet adapter but eh. It works great already, does what I need it to, the 'upgrades' are just comfort things for me, they haven't prevented me from working so far, so no need to rush and sell this and get a new one.

Nope def not. And funny enuff the extra weight it adds isnt much different then getting two high quality bluetooth speakers (like some JBL's) that u can just connect wired and have better quality sound with the ability to reposition them for a more surround like experience - i mean if you really NEED to have some speakers on the GO with a Live. Still tho i prefer headphones when using my Live anyway when im out the house with it.

Nope. The ONLY reason I would consider it would be because the Live's battery was not holding a charge... But it is... So no. :)

...Speaking of... whats the deal with changing batteries? Is it something we will need serviced in a few years?

I stay with my Live mk1.
Nothing changes for me, I don't use cv outs and I already have good monitor speakers.
So at the end mk2 is just a redesign, even a bit heavier then mk1 and with a cheap speaker you cannot remove.

That's a good question.
Mine is still working good but sooner or later we will have to change it.
Any idea where to buy it and how to replace it?

I don't mean to freak you guys out, but yes - replacing the Live's lithium-ion battery will become an issue at some point, probably sooner than later, especially for those who leave their Live's plugged in to shore power all of the time keeping the battery at +97%. The reason is because the optimal charge level for storing lithium-ion batteries hovers around 30% (which is why companies like EGO automatically discharge their lithium-ion batteries to 30% after 30 days of non-use).

By keeping your lithium-ion battery constantly stored at 97%, you decrease the life expectancy, yet I doubt anyone is targeting a 30% discharge state when their MPC Lives are powered down and not plugged in. It's kind of a pain in the ass to do so, and not conducive to a studio setting.

The question is, who will offer the service of replacing batteries? If we all have to send our Live MK1's to Akai or an approved Akai service center, it could be a lengthy wait. Judging from the tear-down videos I've seen, accessing the battery ourselves and R/R them will not be easy.

Nah, I'm gonna be sticking with my "og" MP Clive. It only just fits in my backpack as it is. Making it bigger and heavier would be a real pain. I've got a bose minilink and headphones that do me fine. When it starts getting this big I would rather have the X and get the benefit of 16 Q-links. I'm actually a little bit disappointed with the mk2.
