i recently updated from 2.7 to 2.9 but after doing so the screen had an increase in brightness. i went to preferences and display is set to night. my guess is akai made the screen brighter with the new update. is there a way to return to 2.7 firmware? can i do a factory reset or maybe install an older firmware? also id like to know if its necessary to update the mpc at all, can it still work if i leave the firmware at 2.7?

You don't have to update the MPC, and you can roll back simply be installing the older firmware. However I am not aware of any changes to screen brightness in any of the recent firmware releases. First step would be to update to 2.9.1 (you only mention 2.9), and then try MENU > PREFERENCES > RESET PREFERENCES as this can fix any random glitches.

Thank you, are you sure installing a previous firmware is safe to do?

Yes, it’s safe. Many of have went back and forth between old/new os’s.
One thing to remember projects made on diff versions don’t always translate perfectly between each other. Ie. project created in 2.9 may not work when going back to 2.7. Other than that I’ve had no other problems moving back and forth.

Im a beta tester so have done it many times, back and forth. but as I said, I am not aware of any changes to screen brightness, so I don't think that's going to solve that issue. You're also missing out on a lot of great new features by skipping 2.8.

you may be right, but after updating the firmware last night the screen appeared brighter then usual. I've only been using the mpc for a week so it could be just me, but the screen looked fine before the update, now it feels too bright even in night mode. but thanks for the advice. mind if i ask u a few more questions about the mpc?
-can i theoretically use the mpc one without updating it from 2.7.1? what is the benefit to updating?
-does the mpc include bass or synth/string instruments out of the box or do i need to dl them?
thanks again for the help

You should have been on 2.9.1, and you should have done a "reset preferences". Missing out on a ton of functionality, bug fixes, and features by going with such an old firmware. Even if your screen is brighter - what difference does it make? MPC One doesn't have a battery, so it's not like it's going to kill your performance.

yes that's what i did first, i upgraded to 2.9.1 but i don't like the screen issue, i have a dry eye condition and for me its important to have a screen i can work with. I'm new to this machine so i still don't know if using 2.7.2 will work, i mean as long as the basic things work then its ok, what exactly did 2.9.1 add? what was that red dot next to the track for?

Manuals are a great thing you know.... if you’re that new to the MPC please at least skim over it. These forums are saturated with user error ‘bugs’ that don’t exist it’s all over this forum.... Are there any other forums for MPC users that share tips, tricks and techniques? A forum of advanced users that are getting the most out of there MPC’s & sharing there progress. I’m loving everything about the MPC workflow to be fair and want to focus on what it can do instead of what it can’t. I understand people need help sometimes but still RTFM. Love to all getting involved on this beautiful music journey.

No matter dark/light screen when os 2.9.1 is installed. Why because you have the option to change it in prefs. Not an issue.

It bothers me too so I use a hacky work around that probably isnt for the faint of heart. The brightness setting- even in nightmode, is eye searing. I dont know why they did this... I keep my mpc one spoofed into the MPC X software mode just because of this. It's not present with live, live ii or the mpc x only in the mpc one. I cant figure out the reason for it either.

what do you mean its not present in the live 2? doesn't it have the same software as the mpc one, same brightness settings?

Yes same software, different options are enabled within the software when its running on the different units. There's baked in parameters that are only available to certain units unless spoofed with some hackery.
